Going Green Class Recap

We had our "Saving Money Being Eco-Friendly" class and it was GREAT! Marissa B. has so much knowledge in this area and she really left us with a lot of resources to use. We are sorry that so many of you missed the class but we didn't want you to not get the information if you were interested.

We talked about a lot of things but here are just a few that we covered.

Marissa talked about the benefit and importance of reusable water bottles which can easily be found online. Look at Marissa's blog for information.

We also talked about the popular energy saving light bulbs which are replacing most other light bulbs in peoples homes. It is important to note that these bulbs have a small amount of Mercury so it is important to recycle them correctly and not just throw them in the trash and if one breaks in your home you act appropriately. To read more about this go to http://www.heraldextra.com/content/view/278637/. These bulbs can be taken to Home Depot and Ikea for recycling for free. Waste Management has begun a mail-in program that allows you to pay about $15 for a post-paid cardboard box and special mercury-safe envelope. You then fill the box at home and mail the bulbs in for recycling.

We talked about using homemade cleaning products, the reason it could be important in your home, and how cheap and easy it can be. Here is a great site for recipes .

Reusable Grocery/Produce bag patterns

Trina told us about an all natural soap she likes that can be used for just about anything you want; as a hand soap, dish soap, body soap, and for many cleaning purposes. The bottle claims there are at least 18 uses for it. It is also very concentrated. It is called Dr. Bonner's Pure Castile soap. It is made with all natural vegetable oils.
